I guess it hasn't hit me yet, even though we've been "waiting" for at least 48 hours.
While my parents' generation lived through about 5 popes, John Paul II was the only pope I ever knew. And he wasn't just any pope, he was one of the greatest popes in history.
So now, I sort of have the attitude of "He can't be dead. He has to live forever and ever, or at least as long as I live." And "What do you mean, we get a 'new' pope? He is THE Pope!"
I wish I could philosophize, or something...to put all my feelings into words. But I've already got fantastic philosophers on my friends list, and... I keep fluctuating between joy at his entering heaven and horrible sadness at the loss of him as our earthly leader. And denial.
All I want to say to him now is: St. John Paul the Great, pray for us!
