So I finally saw Troy on Friday...

If there's one thing I learned, it's this: Reading the parody script(s) before seeing the movie is a BAD, BAD idea. Very distracting especially during many of the serious parts. XP
However, the movie itself was great! Much better than a lot of people were saying (like "Everyone gave a bad performance except maybe Eric, and Sean Bean, and Peter O'Toole"). I'd definitely see it again if I could. Keep in mind I'm only judging it as a movie, and I haven't even finished the Iliad yet. Sorry purists.
Brad wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Not terrible, but nothing phenomenal either. When I saw photos of him in costume, I thought, "Oh yeah, he could be a perfect Achilles." But in the movie, I mainly saw only Brad in Greek armor (or, uh...not, depending on the situation), not Achilles. (Except during the fighting... he did a great job with the "god-like" fighting style.) I feel sorry for him in a way, since Troy was supposed to be a possible Oscar vehicle for him.
Eric Bana WAS Hector. Though he did slip into his Aussie accent a few times. ;)
Why, oh why didn't they do more with Odysseus? He was one of my favorite characters, but he could've been so much better (I place the blame entirely on the director, not on Sean). The Odyssey, starring Sean Bean? I'm SO there!
I don't know how they found someone who looked THAT much like Brad to play Patroclus. Seriously, in one scene when Pat was standing in the background on the ship, I thought it was Achilles. XD I do think he was a mite cuter, too. *ducks* I'll have to keep an eye on Garrett Hedlund now...
Hmm, let's see... Agamemnon was great. I didn't think he was too over-the-top, as some have said. The women were all fine in their roles. I was pleasantly surprised by Diane Kruger's acting; I expected much worse. (Although I thought Briseis was prettier than Helen until she got all dirty. XD) And I will be VERY surprised if Peter O'Toole doesn't get the Best Supporting nomination.
Oh, yes, Orlando. You didn't think I'd forget him, did you? ;) He did very well at playing the wimp. But I didn't despise Paris... I mainly felt sorry for him. I don't know if that's good or bad. (I mean, if I were in his place, I'd run away too!) Line delivery was still a little... stiff and rehearsed, or something.
I'm just glad that this role is out of the way. A lot of people don't realize that Paris is supposed to be shallow and cowardly, so they blame Orlando's "bad acting." His upcoming roles should be much better.
So, all in all, an enjoyable film. Now if I could just be able to watch it without thinking, "SOME! GUY! SOME! GUY!" or "RELEASE THE GIANT BALLS OF TWINE!" XD
Aaagh, I hate being sick. I must have a sinus infection or something... I'll see what the doctor says tomorrow.
